D Tarachand

If you know Kalbadevi, you know how tight the streets are. D Tarachand is located at 283 Kazi Sayed Street, right across from the Jumma Masjid. The area is always loud with the sound of carts being pushed and people yelling to get through the crowd. Our building is old, with the kind of character you only find in this part of Mumbai. We deal with various goods, and the shop is often packed with sacks or crates stacked up to the rafters. There isn't much room to move around, so you have to be careful not to trip over anything. The smell of the market is everywhere—spices, dust, and old wood. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that have been spinning for years. During prayer times, the atmosphere changes as the street fills up and then empties again. We've been here for a long time, and we know most of the other traders on the block. Business is done over small glasses of cutting chai and a lot of talk. We don't use much technology here, mostly just ledgers and the occasional phone call. It is a traditional way of doing things, and it works for us. The walls are a bit stained and the floor is worn down from years of footsteps, but it’s a place where real business happens every single day without any fuss or fancy talk. It’s just how things are here.
