D. S. Shah & Co.

We've been at 162 Lohar Chawl for quite a long time now. The Kanji Gokaldas Building is one of those old spots in the market that everyone knows if they spend enough time around here. It gets really crowded in the afternoons, especially with all the movement on the ground floor. D. S. Shah & Co. is basically just us doing our daily work in a space that’s seen a lot of years. Sometimes the elevator in the building acts up, so we just take the stairs. It’s part of the routine. We deal with a lot of people coming in and out looking for specific things. The shelves are pretty packed. It isn't a fancy office with big glass windows or anything like that. It's just a practical place where we keep our records and handle the business side of things. Lohar Chawl has a specific energy, you know? It's noisy and dusty, but it’s where we belong. Most days are just about keeping up with the orders and making sure the paperwork is sorted. We don't really do much in terms of decorating the place. It’s more about having enough room for the stock and a desk to sit at. Being here in this part of the city means you get used to the constant hum of the market. We just keep our heads down and get through the list of things to do before the shutters go down for the evening.
