Being in Colaba is interesting, mostly because of the history and the way the buildings feel so old and solid. Indian Sales Corporation is tucked into Doli Chambers, which is No. 401 on Strand Road. If you walk past the Strand Cinema, you’ve basically found us. It’s a busy part of town, especially with all the tourists and the locals heading to the water. Our office is a bit of a maze with all the files and the samples we keep lying around. We’ve had the same furniture for a long time, and the ceiling fan has a rhythm of its own. We mostly deal with sales and distribution, which means the phone is always ringing or someone is dropping by to discuss a delivery. It gets really humid here being so close to the sea, and the salt in the air seems to get into everything. We don't do anything flashy. It’s mostly just making sure the orders go out and the customers get what they need. Sometimes we grab lunch from the small place around the corner and eat at our desks while looking over the ledgers. The stairs in Doli Chambers are quite steep, and the lift is one of those old manual ones that you have to close the gate on yourself. It’s got a lot of character, even if it’s a bit frustrating when you’re in a hurry. The street noise is constant but it feels like the heartbeat of the place.
