Ciba Specialty Chemicals India is located in Building Number 40 on the first floor, right off Aarey Road in Goregaon East. This area is usually very congested, especially during the morning and evening hours when everyone is trying to get to work. The office itself is quite straightforward and functional, without any of the fancy decor you see in newer corporate buildings. We handle all the administrative work and order processing for our chemical business from this single floor. Inside, the rooms are filled with old metal cupboards and stacks of documents that go back several years. The team usually starts the day with a cup of tea from the local vendor who comes around. Because of where we are situated, there is always a bit of dust and the constant sound of vehicles on Aarey Road. Sometimes the power cuts out for a few minutes when there’s a heavy storm, but we just wait it out and get back to work. We spend most of our time checking inventory levels and talking to the distributors about their requirements. It is a lot of routine data entry and phone calls. The building has a bit of an old-school feel to it, which suits us just fine. Most of the staff have been with us for a long time and they know the local area well. We don’t really have any public areas or showrooms, as most of our business happens through long-term contracts and phone orders.
