Camel Bags

Our place is on the 1st floor of Nachiket Apartments on Masjid Bunder Road. If you know that road, you know how packed it gets with trucks and people carrying crates all day long. We are tucked away in apartment 41464, so it’s more of a workshop than a fancy shop. You have to walk up the stairs, and you’ll probably hear the sound of the sewing machines before you even see the door. We make all sorts of bags here, and the floors are usually covered in scraps of fabric and long zippers. It’s a bit dusty, and the machines are quite old, but they still run perfectly fine if you know how to kick them into gear. My uncle handles the heavy stitching while I look after the orders and talk to the people who come in looking for wholesale bags. We don’t have a lot of space, so we stack the finished products right up to the ceiling in the back room. It gets very hot during the summer months, so we keep the fans on high, but it doesn’t do much against the heat of the machines. People come to us because we’ve been at this address for years and they know where to find us. We just keep our heads down and keep sewing until the sun goes down. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know how to do.
