Bharat Shetty

My name is Bharat Shetty and I am based over in Govandi on Bks Devshi Marg, at number 421. It’s a crowded area, and my office is right in the thick of things. I have been working out of this location for a good many years now. Usually, it’s just me and one or two other people helping out with the daily tasks. My desk is always covered in stacks of folders and little notes I’ve written to myself. We don’t have a big sign outside or anything like that to attract attention. Most of the people who come to see us are locals or people who heard about us from a friend. It’s a very basic setup without any of the modern bells and whistles. We start the morning by going through the mail and then spend the rest of the day meeting with whoever stops by. The street outside is always loud with cars and people heading toward the station. Inside, the hum of the air conditioner is the main sound you hear. I try my best to keep the paperwork moving, though it does pile up sometimes when we get busy. We usually take a break for tea around four in the afternoon. It is a very straightforward way of working. There are no frills here, just a small space where we get our daily business done. Sometimes the power goes out during the monsoon, but we just keep going anyway. It’s just how things are.
