Bharat Rubber Works

Bharat Rubber Works operates out of the Girikunj Industrial Estate. We are in unit B-46. The estate is tucked away off Mahakali Caves Road in Andheri East. If you know Mumbai, you know how hectic Andheri East can get. The road outside is always torn up or full of trucks. Our unit is just one of many in this big complex. It’s a bit dusty and the air smells like rubber and machinery, which is right for what we do. There’s no fancy signage here. We have big heavy doors and concrete floors that have seen a lot of wear over the years. The light comes in through high windows that we don't wash as often as we should. It’s an industrial space, through and through. We share the estate with all sorts of other businesses, so there is always a lot of noise. Forklifts move around in the common areas and people are always shouting over the sound of engines. We’ve been at B-46 for quite a while. It’s home for us during the day. We have a small corner where we keep the kettle and some cups for breaks. Most of the space is taken up by the things we make. It’s a practical setup. We don't need much else. Being near the Mahakali Caves is a landmark, but we mostly just focus on what's happening inside the estate walls. It's a busy life here but we like the pace of it.
