Bafna Textiles

We’ve been here at Vishram Bhuvan on Dr. M. B. Velkar Street for a long time now. If you know the Kalbadevi area, you know how crowded these lanes get every single afternoon. Our shop is up on the first floor at number forty-one. It’s not a very big space, just a typical old Mumbai building setup where we keep our stock of different fabrics and textiles. Most days are spent sorting through rolls of cloth and making sure orders for the local markets are ready to go out on time. You have to walk up the stairs and sometimes the hallway is a bit narrow because of all the bundles waiting to be moved. It’s a busy place with people coming in and out constantly. We don't have fancy displays or anything like that. It’s more about the actual work and the material we handle every day. The street outside is always noisy with handcarts and tempos trying to squeeze through. We just focus on getting the right textiles to the people who need them. It gets quite hot in the summer months, but that’s just how it is working in this part of town. We’ve gotten used to the rhythm of Kalbadevi Road over the years. It’s a lot of manual work, checking the quality of the threads and making sure the colors are what was asked for. We just stay busy with our piles of cloth and the daily routine.
