Avi Global Plast Pvt Ltd is located in Bhargava House, which is Plot No 49 in the Marol Co Operative Industrial Estate. It’s right on M V Road in Andheri East, so the traffic outside is always a nightmare. If you’ve ever been to this part of Mumbai, you know how crowded the streets get with trucks and autos. Inside our space, it’s a different world full of plastic sheets and big rolls of film. We spend the day running the extruders and checking the thickness of the plastic. The floor is concrete and usually has a few scuff marks from the heavy pallets being dragged across it. Our office is just a small corner partitioned off with some glass, and it’s usually piled high with sample binders and old folders. We make a lot of stuff that people use once and then throw away, like packaging for fruit or electronics. It’s noisy and the smell of melting plastic is something you eventually stop noticing after a few weeks of working here. The workers talk about their commute while they wait for the machines to warm up in the morning. Sometimes the power goes out, and we all just sit around waiting for the generator to kick in. It’s just a normal factory life where we focus on getting the orders out before the trucks arrive in the evening.
