About Ashoka Architectures – Architect, Interior & Structural Design in Mumbai
We’re located up on the second floor of 52/58 B G, in Room 39. Kalbadevi is a busy place, so getting up to our office is always a bit of an adventure with the narrow stairs and the people moving boxes around. The room itself isn't very big, but we’ve managed to fit three desks and a huge filing cabinet that’s seen better days. We work on all sorts of building projects, mostly local stuff around this part of town. The walls are a bit yellowed from age, and we have sketches pinned up everywhere. It’s a noisy environment, but that’s just life in this area. We spend a lot of time on the phone with structural engineers or trying to track down where a delivery went wrong. There isn't a lot of space for a waiting area, so visitors usually just pull up a stool next to one of the desks. We drink a lot of tea from the stall downstairs. Most of our work involves making sure the drawings match the reality of these old buildings, which is rarely simple. There are always surprises when you start a renovation in Kalbadevi. We’ve grown used to the quirks of the building we're in, like the door that sticks when it’s humid. We aren't trying to be some high-end firm; we just handle the plans and the site visits as they come. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late evening. Our computers are getting a bit slow, but they still get the job done eventually. We usually have the window open to get a breeze, even if it brings in the street noise.
