About Ashok Tribhovandas Damani – Architect, Interior & Structural Design in Mumbai
I run things out of Shop Number 4 in Saraswati Sadan, which is located in Vile Parle East near Day. It’s a small shop in a building that’s been around for quite some time. Being on the ground floor makes it easy for the locals to stop by. I’ve spent many years in this spot, watching the street outside change while my little shop stays pretty much the same. Inside, I have my desk, a couple of chairs for whoever stops in, and shelves filled with various ledgers and papers. Ashok Tribhovandas Damani is just me and sometimes an assistant helping out with the paperwork. It’s a very local way of doing things. I know most of the people who walk past the window every morning. The shop isn't modern or polished. It’s got that old-school feel with a wooden counter and a fan that’s been whirring for years. I spend most of my day going through accounts or talking to people about their requirements. It’s a steady pace. I don't like to rush things too much. When the monsoon hits, I have to keep the door mostly shut to keep the rain out, but otherwise, it stays open. It’s a simple life and a simple way of working. I take pride in being a part of this neighborhood for so long. There’s no big corporate strategy here, just daily work and staying honest with the people who come in.
