Arvind Furniture

Arvind Furniture has been located right by the flyover bridge in Goregaon West for a long time. Our workshop is in A.K. Estate, which is a busy area with a lot of traffic passing by overhead. It’s not the quietest place to work, but it’s easy for people to find once they know we’re under the bridge. We spend our days dealing with wood, fabric, and whatever else goes into making chairs or tables. The shop floor is often dusty because there is always some sanding or cutting going on. We aren't a big showroom with air conditioning and bright lights. It’s more of a practical space where we get our hands dirty. Most of us here have been working with furniture for years, so we just get on with it. Sometimes the rains make things difficult because Goregaon gets quite wet, and the sound on the metal roof can be deafening, but we manage to keep the wood dry and the projects moving. Clients stop by to look at pieces or talk about what they need for their homes. We don’t have a script for how we talk to people. We just show them what we have and tell them how long it will take to finish. It’s a small team here. We know each other well and we know the locals who live around the estate. It’s a simple life, making stuff that people actually use in their houses every day. We just try to do a decent job.
