ARCHITECT PREM NATH & ASSOCIATES

Our office is located in Devidas Mansion, right on the first floor at 4 Merewether Road. We are lucky to be facing the Gateway of India, so the view from the windows is actually quite nice, though we’re usually too busy to look out much. ARCHITECT PREM NATH & ASSOCIATES is an architecture firm, but we try not to act like those stuffy offices you see on TV. We have a lot of history in this building. The rooms are high-ceilinged and usually filled with rolls of drawings and old models gathering dust. It’s a working office, so it’s rarely perfectly tidy. We have a mix of people here, some who have been with us forever and some newer faces. We spend a lot of time arguing over structural details or checking building codes. It's not always the creative, artistic stuff people think it is; there's a lot of boring paperwork and phone calls to contractors too. Colaba is a busy part of town, so there is always noise from the street coming up. We like the energy of it. People stop by to discuss their plans, and we just sit down and talk it through. We don't use a lot of fancy words to describe what we do. We just design buildings and try to make sure they stay standing. It’s a long-standing practice and we’ve seen a lot of changes in the city from this vantage point over the years.
