Angel Lamps Manufacturing Co.

Being on the second floor of Ashoka Shopping Centre on L. T. Marg means we carry a lot of stuff up and down the stairs. Angel Lamps Manufacturing Co. is where we put together different types of lighting. The workspace is usually filled with the smell of solder and bits of wire scattered across the tables. We have a lot of glass components around, so we have to be careful where we step. The shopping centre itself is quite old, and the hallways can be a bit dark until you get inside our unit where we have all the test bulbs glowing. It’s not a very quiet place because there’s always the sound of someone tapping on metal or testing a switch. We keep our supplies in big wooden crates that take up most of the floor space. Most of our day is spent at the benches, working under small lamps to make sure the wiring is right. We get a lot of light from the windows that look out over the street, but it’s mostly the orange glow of the workshop that people see. Sometimes the elevator in the building stops working, and that makes for a long day of carrying boxes. We just keep at it, one lamp at a time, until it’s time to lock up the shutters and head home through the evening traffic. It is a lot of repetitive work, but we are used to the rhythm of it by now.
