In the middle of Andheri, specifically over in JB Nagar, you’ll find our little watch shop. It’s a busy part of Mumbai, so there’s always noise from the traffic and people rushing to catch the metro or a bus. Our shop is a bit of a quiet spot compared to the street outside. When you walk in, you can hear the ticking of dozens of different clocks all at once. It’s a sound we don't even notice anymore. We spend most of our time hunched over a workbench with a tiny magnifying glass stuck to one eye. Dealing with watches is delicate work. The parts are so small you can barely see them, and if you drop a screw, it’s gone forever. We fix all kinds of things, from old mechanical watches that haven't run in years to the new digital ones that just need a fresh battery. Our hands are usually a bit stained with oil or dirt from the old watch straps. It’s not a big showroom with bright lights and fancy displays. It’s more of a workshop where tools are scattered around and there are drawers full of spare glass and leather bands. People from around Andheri drop by when their favorite watch stops working, and we do what we can. It’s a steady job that requires a lot of patience and a very steady hand. We just work through the day, one clock at a time.
