We are up on the third floor of the Gaya Building, Room No. 11. It’s on Masjid Bunder Road, so you can imagine the chaos outside. It is one of those old buildings where the stairs are narrow and there is always a lot of noise from the street. Our office is small, but we do a lot of business in steel. We aren't actually hammering the steel right here in the room; this is more where we handle the orders and the drawings. It can get pretty cramped when we have a lot of blueprints spread out on the tables. The fans hum all day to keep the air moving, but it’s still Mumbai, so it’s usually warm. We spend a lot of time talking to suppliers and checking on the workshop where the actual crafting happens. Being in Masjid Bunder means we are right in the middle of everything. You can hear the trucks and the shouting from the market downstairs all day long. It is not a place for someone who wants peace and quiet. We have been in this room for years and know all the neighbors. It is a simple setup. We just focus on getting the steel orders right and making sure the measurements are what the customer asked for. Some days the elevator doesn't work and we have to climb all those flights.
