We are tucked away in Hasmukhlal Shah Chawl over in Santosh Nagar. It’s Room Number 21 in the Irani Wadi area of Kandivli. If you know this part of Mumbai, you know it’s crowded and very lively. We’ve been here for a while, running Yashoratna Nidhi. It’s not a big office with a glass front or a receptionist. It’s a room in a chawl where we sit and handle the savings for the people nearby. Most of our members live just a few doors down or a couple of streets over. We help them save small amounts every month. It’s tough living in Mumbai sometimes, and having a local place to keep your money helps a lot. We don't use big words or try to sell you things you don't need. We just talk like normal people. If the tea is ready, we might offer you a cup while we fill out your passbook. The space is small, but it’s ours and we keep it clean. You don't need an appointment, just walk in through the lane and find us. We know the struggles of the daily commute and the high prices in the city, so we keep our services basic and practical for everyone in Irani Wadi. We are just a small part of the neighborhood trying to help out where we can. It's a simple life here in the chawl.
