Mulund East is a crowded place, and we are tucked away in Jai Laxmi Narayan Colony. You have to find your way to Mr. Dattatray’s spot, specifically room number 13 on the road there. It’s a tight space, mostly filled with old metal cupboards and a couple of wooden desks that have seen better days. We spend our mornings drinking tea and going through the Shashar Nidhi paperwork. The fan makes a bit of a clicking sound, but we’ve gotten used to it over the months. People from the colony drop in quite often just to ask a quick question or drop off a document. There’s no big sign outside, just the usual sounds of the neighborhood and the occasional motorbike zooming past. We keep the registers in a specific order, though sometimes things get a bit messy when we are busy. It’s a very local operation, nothing like those big banks you see in the city center. We know most of the people who come by because they live just a few streets away. It’s about managing what we have and making sure the entries are correct before the sun goes down. Sometimes the light in the hallway flickers, but it doesn't bother us much. We just focus on the task at hand and try to stay organized in our own way without making a big deal out of it.
