People For Education Health Environment

Our spot is on the upper floor, shops number two and three, in Radha Niwas. LBS Road is right outside in Bhandup West, so there is always a lot of noise from the buses and rickshaws. The name People For Education Health Environment is a bit of a long one for a small team, but it covers the stuff we handle. Most mornings are spent trying to help kids with their school books or talking to people about health issues in the neighborhood. In Mumbai, the environment part is tough because the city is so busy, but we do what we can. Inside, it is small and gets a bit hot in the afternoons, but we have a fan that works well enough. We have some old desks and a lot of paper stacked up on the shelves. Local people from the chawls nearby come in to ask for help with school forms or just to tell us about a leak in the street. We try to be useful to them. Bhandup is a crowded place, and sometimes it feels like we are just doing a tiny bit, but it is something that needs doing. Profit is not why we are here. We just live here and want the neighborhood to be okay for the kids. Downstairs, the tea shop is where we end up most evenings after we close up the shops and finish for the day. It is a simple life and we just take it one day at a time.
