Our place, Montigo Fashion Llp, is situated in Andheri East on A K Road. We are in the Mittal Industrial Estate, specifically in Sanjay Building Number 5, unit B-259. Being in an industrial estate in Mumbai means there is always a lot of movement. You have trucks loading and unloading at all hours and the sound of machines coming from the units next door. It’s a bit of a maze to find us if you aren’t familiar with the estate, but we’ve been here long enough that it feels like home. The walls are a bit plain and the lighting is just standard industrial stuff, but it works for what we need. Most days involve us checking the stitch work on the latest batches and moving boxes around. The air gets quite humid here, especially in the monsoon, and we have to be careful about keeping everything dry. We have a few long tables where we spread everything out to look at the patterns. It’s a hands-on kind of job, and we usually have grease on our hands or thread stuck to our shirts by the time we leave. We catch the local trains or buses like everyone else, and the commute can be a bit of a grind. But once we are in the unit, we just put our heads down and work on the fashion items we handle. It is a simple operation with no hidden layers or complicated systems.
