Meraak Couture LLP is situated at 33/158 in the Laxmi Jyot Industrial Premises. It’s on the New Link Road in Andheri West, right opposite Fun Republic. If you’ve been to that cinema, you’ve probably passed our building without even noticing it. It’s one of those busy industrial societies where there is always someone moving boxes or fixing a machine. We handle couture work, which sounds fancy, but the reality is just a lot of hard work and sitting at tables for hours. The unit isn't huge but we make the most of the space we have. We started this because we liked the idea of making clothes that felt a bit more personal. Being in Andheri West means we are close to everything, but the traffic on Link Road is always a headache. We have a small team of tailors and cutters who have been with us through thick and thin. Sometimes we run out of thread or a machine breaks down, and we just have to figure it out on the fly. We don’t have a receptionist or a lobby. You just walk in and see everyone working. We prefer it that way. It’s more about the actual making of the clothes than looking important. We keep our heads down and try to meet our deadlines. That’s the long and short of it for us at Laxmi Jyot. It is a bit dusty and loud, but it is where we belong.
