Issar Welfare Foundation

Our place is in Flat 13 at Amit Estate, right on the 3rd Cross Road in Lokhandwala. If you know Mumbai, you know how busy and loud this area gets at all hours. We’ve been running Issar Welfare Foundation from this small apartment for quite a while now. It’s a bit cramped with all the paperwork and supplies stacked up in the corners, but we make it work just fine. Most of the time, the ceiling fan is humming and we’re drinking hot tea while discussing who needs help next. Lokhandwala is a fast-paced place, but inside Flat 13, we try to slow things down and focus on welfare stuff. We aren't a giant organization with glass walls or shiny floors. We’re just a small group of people who wanted to do some good for the community. Sometimes the lift in the building acts up, so we end up taking the stairs. It keeps us moving, at least. We deal with a lot of local requests, people coming by asking for things throughout the week. We try to listen and see what we can actually manage with our limited resources. It’s not always pretty or organized perfectly, but the heart is there. We grew up around these streets, so we know the real problems people face every day in Mumbai. We just want to help out our neighbors and whoever else comes through the door. No fancy titles or corporate talk, just us working together in the flat.
