Akino The Rising Sun Foundation

We are located over in Chembur East, specifically at Room Number 3 in New Nagababa Nagar. It’s right there on RC Marg, Plot Number 7, near the RNA Park. If you know Mumbai, you know how these areas are. It’s crowded and there’s always noise from the traffic. Our space is small, just one room really, but it’s enough for what we do. We call it The Rising Sun because we like to think of starting fresh, but we don't go around saying that to everyone. We mostly just sit and work on whatever comes our way. Sometimes it’s helping a kid with school stuff, other times it’s just giving advice to someone who’s having a hard time. We don't have a lot of furniture. A couple of benches and a fan that squeaks a bit is all we have. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we usually keep the door wide open. People walking by often peek in to see what we are up to. We aren't a big NGO with lots of funding. We are just a few guys from the locality who decided to put our heads together. Most of our work happens right there on the street or in that small room. We don't have a logo or uniforms. We just look like everyone else in Chembur. It’s honest work and we do it because we live here too. That's about it for us, just keeping things moving one day at a time.
