Our place is on the 12th floor of the Venus Building in Cuffe Parade. Being on G D Somani Marg means we are right in the middle of a very busy part of Mumbai. Shanker Kapda Niryat Llp deals with a lot of cloth, and being up on the 12th floor gives us a bit of a view, though we are usually too busy to look out the window much. The office is at Plot No. 40, 87, and it gets quite a bit of light in the mornings. We spend the bulk of our time on the phone or working through stacks of shipping documents. Dealing with exports means there is always something to track or a deadline that is coming up fast. The elevators in this building can be a bit slow during the lunch hour, so we usually just stay put. It is a professional enough environment but we keep things simple inside. There are boxes of samples tucked into corners and files everywhere. My desk is usually covered in swatches. We have been operating from this Mumbai City address for some time. The area has changed quite a bit over the years, but our routine stays mostly the same. We come in, check the messages from overnight, and start sorting through the fabric requirements. It is steady work. Sometimes we stay late when the shipments are heavy, but that is just part of the job here. We just focus on getting the cloth where it needs to go.
