Ballard Estate is one of those parts of Mumbai that feels like stepping back in time with all the old stone buildings. Our office for Samyag Impex Trading Llp is in the Kay Building on Walchand Hirachand Marg. We’re on the fourth floor, which is unit 401. It’s a classic old building with high ceilings and those heavy doors that you don’t see much in newer constructions. The area is quite grand but also very busy because of all the shipping and government offices nearby. We like being here because it feels solid and central. The walk from the CST station is actually quite nice if it isn't raining too hard. Inside our office, we have the usual setup—computers, some filing cabinets that are a bit overstuffed, and a big table where we look over documents. It can get a bit warm in the afternoons because the sun hits our side of the building, but we have some old fans that do the job well enough. There’s always a lot of paperwork to deal with in the trading business, so our desks are rarely clear. We know the local chai wallah and the small canteen nearby pretty well. It’s a professional neighborhood but we keep our own space feeling more like a regular workplace where everyone knows each other. It’s not fancy, but it’s where we get things done every day without much fuss or noise from the outside world.
