Srikrishna Chawal Bhandar

You can find Srikrishna Chawal Bhandar right on Muzaffarpur Road. We are in the middle of Chakia Market, very close to the police station. It’s a good spot because everyone passes by here eventually. We sell rice, mostly in bulk but sometimes in smaller amounts if someone really needs it. The shop is always a bit dusty from the sacks, but that’s normal for a chawal bhandar. We aren't trying to be a supermarket. We just have piles of rice and a scale. My brother and I run the place together. We don't have any staff really, just a couple of guys who help with the heavy lifting when the trucks arrive. It gets really crowded on market days. We don't have time for long chats then. People just want their rice so they can get home. We’ve been in this market for years, so we know all the other shopkeepers. We don't spend money on advertising. People just know where the police station is and they find us next to it. It’s a very basic setup. We have a small wooden desk where we take the cash. We aren't looking to expand or do anything crazy. We just want to keep selling rice and making a living. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till evening. That’s all there is to it. We just open the shutters and start the day.
