Solar World

You can find Solar World on the Main Road in Koiri Tola, over in Raxaul. We are right in the East Champaran district, which gets plenty of sun for most of the year. Our shop is where we keep all the solar panels, batteries, and the equipment needed to get them running. It started out as a small interest in new energy and turned into a full-time job for us. We spend a lot of our days out on rooftops, bolting down frames and connecting wires. It gets really hot up there, but that’s the nature of the work. Inside the shop, it’s a bit of a mess with tools and manuals scattered around. We aren't big on decoration or making the place look like a mall. We just want to make sure the stuff we sell actually works when the power goes out, which happens quite a bit around here. People come to us because they are tired of the blackouts. We explain how the batteries work in plain language without using too much technical jargon. Sometimes we have to travel a bit to reach the more remote farms, but we don't mind the drive. It’s just us and a couple of helpers doing the installations. We don't have a fancy mission statement or anything. We just help people get some lights on when the grid fails. It’s practical work and it keeps us busy throughout the entire week.
