About Ocean Dhydration – Food & Beverages in Morbi
We set up Ocean Dhydration out here near Maliya Patiya, right by the Amul Pulse plant. It is a good spot for what we do because there is plenty of space for the equipment and the trucks coming in. Most of our time is spent dealing with raw vegetables like onions and garlic. We have these big machines that take all the moisture out so the products last longer. It is a noisy process and the air always smells very strongly of whatever we are drying that day. Some days the smell of onions is so thick you can almost taste it. We have a small team of local workers who help with the sorting and the packing. It’s a lot of manual labor, checking the quality before things go into the dryers. The weather actually matters a lot to us, even though we work indoors. We try to keep a steady rhythm, but sometimes a machine breaks down or a shipment is late, and then we have to scramble to catch up. The office is just a tiny room off to the side where we keep the logs and take calls. It’s not a glamorous business, and we get quite dusty by the end of the shift. We just focus on getting the work done right so the sacks are ready for the buyers when they show up. It is just basic work but it keeps the lights on.
