We have our shop on Ayodhya Puri Main Road, right across from Swagat Ceramic. It’s a busy road with a lot of shops and traffic, so there is always noise and people moving about. We deal in plywood and general hardware, so we have huge stacks of wood sheets and boxes of hinges and handles everywhere. The smell of cut wood is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We spend a lot of our time moving these heavy sheets around for customers, which is a real workout for the arms and back. There is usually a layer of sawdust on everything, no matter how much we try to sweep it up. Being on the main road means we get a lot of walk-in customers, mostly contractors or people doing up their own houses. We don’t have a lot of room for a fancy display, so everything is just stacked up where we can fit it. Across the street, the ceramic shop is always busy too, so the whole block feels very active. We have a small desk where we keep our bills and a few chairs for people to sit while they wait for their order to be loaded. It’s a simple, hardworking environment. We start early in the morning before the sun gets too hot and try to get the heavy lifting done early if we can.
