Zakir Brass Corporation

Zakir Brass Corporation is found on Peerzada Street, right near the Gulab Wali Masjid. It’s an old part of town with lots of narrow lanes and history. You can usually hear the sound of metal being worked on before you even see our door. We do a lot of brass work here. It gets hot in the workshop, especially when the furnaces are going. We have various tools scattered around—hammers, chisels, and polishing cloths. It’s not a clean place. There is metal dust and the smell of grease, but that’s a workshop for you. We’ve been in this neighborhood for a long time. Everyone knows the masjid, so it’s easy to find us. We make different items, some small and some quite large. We don't really have a showroom. People just come into the back where we are working to see what we have. We aren't big on titles or corporate structure. Zakir keeps an eye on everything and the rest of us do the labor. We take our breaks together and talk about whatever is going on in the street. The work takes a lot of patience. If you rush it, the brass doesn't look right. We aren't trying to be famous or anything. We just want to make pieces that last. It is a humble business, and we like it that way. Peerzada Street is our home.
