Pooja Metal Works is tucked inside Sheesh Mahal in the Diwan Ka Bazar area. The name Sheesh Mahal sounds grand, but it’s actually a very old building in a very crowded market. Diwan Ka Bazar is always packed with people, goats, and rickshaws. You have to be careful where you step. Our workshop is small and filled with the sound of hammers hitting metal. It’s been that way for a long time. We don't have a showroom or anything. If you want to see what we do, you just have to come into the shop and look at what’s on the benches. It’s hot in there because of the forge, and the walls are darkened from years of work. We mostly make traditional metal items and parts that people in the bazar need. It’s not a high-tech operation. We use our hands and a few old-fashioned tools. Most of our customers are locals who have known us for generations. We drink a lot of water and try to stay cool when the sun is hitting the bazar. It’s a loud, messy environment, but there’s a rhythm to it that we like. We’re just part of the old city, doing metal work the way it’s always been done in Sheesh Mahal.
