There is almost always the sound of hammers or grinders coming from Nizam Metal Works. We are tucked away on Bhatti Street and it is a very loud and busy place to spend the day. We work with all sorts of metals, fixing things that are broken or making new parts from scratch for local people. The air inside the shop is usually thick with the smell of iron and the heat from the welding torches. It is not a clean environment and my hands are usually covered in grease or soot by the end of the shift. My father was the one who started this shop and I just kept it going because it is what I know how to do. We have some old machines that have been repaired dozens of times but they still get the job done. Customers just walk in through the front door and tell us what they need. We don't have any brochures or a sales team to talk to them. We just look at the metal and figure out a price. Bhatti Street is so packed that sometimes we have to move our work outside just to have enough room to breathe. It is a simple life of hard work and making things with our hands. We stay late most nights if a neighbor has a rush job that needs finishing. It is just us and the metal every single day.
