Mumtaz Engineering Works

In Chote Kazipur, everyone knows where we are. Mumtaz Engineering Works is tucked in near the Harijan Basti area. It’s a busy little neighborhood with lots of people coming and going. The workshop itself is not very big, but we have crammed a lot of equipment into the space over the years. We started this because we liked working with our hands. There is a certain feeling you get when a machine starts running properly again after you’ve spent hours messing with its internals. It isn't always easy. Some days the power goes out or a tool breaks right when you need it most. We just deal with it as it comes. The streets around here can be a bit narrow, so it’s always a squeeze when someone brings in a larger piece of equipment for us to look at. We see a lot of the same people every week. It’s more like a community than just a place of business. We don't have any fancy signs or a reception area. You just walk in past the scrap pile and find one of us working. It might take a minute to get our attention if the machines are running loud. We usually have the radio playing in the background, though you can barely hear it over the clanking. At the end of the day, we sweep up the floor, lock the heavy doors, and walk home. It’s a simple way to make a living.
