M.J.K. Exports

Our business, M.J.K. Exports, is run out of Ashrafi House in Mufti Tola. Being in this part of the city means things are always moving. The area is crowded and the streets are full of people and carts, but that is just the way it is here. Ashrafi House is a solid building, though it definitely looks its age. We have got a few rooms where we keep our records and do our packing. It is not a showroom by any means. It is a working office where we spend most of our daylight hours. The light in the morning is quite good in the front room. We do not have a big HR department or complicated rules. If there is a problem, we just sit down and talk it out over some tea. It is a very straightforward way to run things. Most of us have been working together for years, so we do not need to explain much to each other anymore. We just know the routine. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait a bit, but we use that time to catch up. The neighborhood is loud, with vendors calling out and scooters zipping by, but inside the house, it feels a bit more settled. We focus on the orders we have to get out and do not worry too much about the rest. It is a simple, honest way to make a living for all of us.
