Our place is situated on Court Road, right near the Gandhi Ashram. It’s an interesting spot because you have the quiet feeling of the ashram on one side and the busy lawyers and people going to court on the other. We spend our days inside this building working on different designs and trying to get everything just right. It’s a lot of sketching and looking at materials under the light to see how they look. We don’t have a fancy lobby or anyone to greet you at the door. You usually have to find us among the piles of fabric and paper. The fans hum overhead all day, trying to keep us cool while we work. Because we are on Court Road, there is always someone walking by, but inside here, we try to stay focused on the task. We get our tea from the stall around the corner and usually drink it while looking over a new project. It’s not a glamorous job, and there are days when things don’t turn out how we wanted, so we just start over. My desk is a mess of pencils and rulers, but I know where everything is. We have been in this location for a while now and the neighborhood knows us as the people who are always working late into the evening.
