Punjab Timbers

Our yard is over in JLPL Sector 82. If you know the industrial area in Punjab, you know it’s a lot of grey buildings and heavy trucks. Punjab Timbers is where you’ll hear the constant scream of the saws. We deal with wood all day long, so there’s always a layer of sawdust on everything—our clothes, the desks, even the tea. We get different kinds of timber in, and then it’s all about cutting it down to the sizes people need. It’s physical work. My hands are usually covered in splinters or sap by the end of the shift. We aren’t a big fancy showroom; we’re a timber yard where people come when they need raw material for building or furniture. The weather in Punjab gets really sharp, so in winter we’re shivering while we move the logs, and in summer we’re sweating through our shirts. We try to keep the stacks neat so we can find things, but it often ends up looking a bit messy when we’re busy. We’ve got some old machines that have been with us forever, and they need a lot of looking after to keep them running. It’s just how it is. We show up, we cut the wood, we load the trucks, and we go home. It’s a simple way to make a living, and we’ve been at it in Sector 82 for quite a while now.
