Jain Bartan Store

Main Bazaar in Kharar is always busy, especially around our shop. We’ve been at Jain Bartan Store for a long time now. You can find us right there in the thick of it. The shop is filled with all sorts of metal pots and pans. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded because we try to keep everything people might need for their kitchens. People come in looking for a specific size of cooker or maybe just a small spoon. It’s a lot of work keeping track of the stock. My father started this and now we just keep it going every day. The morning starts with opening the shutters and dusting off the stainless steel. It shines under the lights once the dust is gone. We talk to the neighbors and the people passing by. Most folks around Mohali know us because we’ve been here so many years. It isn’t fancy at all. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. If you need something from the top, we have to get the old ladder out. Sometimes the tea guy comes by and we take a quick break. It is just a regular life here. We handle the deliveries when the trucks arrive and try to make space for the new boxes. It’s a tight fit usually. We just keep doing what we do, day after day, making sure the locals have their plates and pots and whatever else they need to cook their meals at home.
