Our place is out in Village Bhagwan Pur, right along Barwala Road. Jai Parvati Forge Pvt. Ltd. is where the sound of the hammers and the heat of the furnace define our days. It’s not the kind of place you’d go to if you wanted to stay clean. The air has that metallic tang to it, and the floor is made of hard concrete that’s seen thousands of tons of steel pass over it. We work with fire and metal, shaping things into what they need to be. The village setting means it’s a bit quieter once you step away from the factory gates, but inside it’s all business. We’ve got a small office near the entrance where we keep the logbooks and the delivery schedules. Most of us have been working here for years, so we know the machines better than we know our own cars. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait for the generator to kick in, which gives us a few minutes to stand outside and catch a breeze. Barwala Road is usually full of tractors and trucks, and the dust settles on everything. We don’t use any big words to describe what we do. We just take raw metal, heat it up, and beat it into shape until it’s right. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know. We just focus on the forge and the orders we have to finish.
