Singla Provision Stores

Our store is located on Jagraon Kishen Road, right by the Kanta Laxmi Nivas Chawl. It’s a very lively spot with a lot of people coming and going throughout the day and night. I’ve lived in this part of the city for a long time, so running the store here feels very natural to me. We keep a variety of provisions, mainly the kind of things people run out of in the middle of cooking their dinner. The space inside is a bit cramped because we try to fit as much as possible onto the wooden shelves. I usually sit near the front door where I can see everyone passing by on the street. It’s a good place to hear the local news and have a quick chat with the regulars who come in daily. The building itself is quite old now, but it has character and keeps the rain out. We deal with all the usual challenges of a small shop, like keeping the dust off the jars and making sure nothing stays on the shelf too long. It’s a simple enough life, opening up at eight and closing when the street finally gets quiet. Sometimes my son comes in after his classes to help move the heavier bags of rice and sugar. We don't have any computer system or fancy machines, just a simple ledger and a blue pen to keep track of our things. It works well enough for us and we don't see a reason to change it. It’s just a regular part of the neighborhood.
