Raj Karyana & General Stores

Out here at Jagraon Sakinaka 6/3/R, Raj Karyana & General Stores sits right on the corner. It's a bit of a mix of everything, hence the general store part of the name. If someone needs a lightbulb or some washing powder, they usually stick their head in. The morning rush is the hardest part of the day because everyone wants their milk and bread at exactly the same minute. I usually have a radio playing somewhere in the back, mostly just for background noise while I'm restocking the bins. The jars of sweets on the counter are always a hit with the little ones. Sometimes I look at the piles of inventory and wonder how it all fits in here. It’s a lot of work keeping things organized, and honestly, some days the shelves look a bit chaotic. I try to sweep the front step twice a day, but with the wind, it’s a losing battle. We keep a big notebook for the regular customers who pay at the end of the month. It's an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us and the people around Jagraon Sakinaka. The shop gets a lot of light in the afternoon which makes it hot, so we usually sit near the door then. It’s not a complicated business. We just sell what people ask for and try to stay stocked up on the basics so nobody leaves empty-handed.
