Emc Construction Company

Out here in Vill Jindrha, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Emc Construction Company is basically run by Rakesh Kumar and the rest of us here in Moga. Our office is near the post office in Naserawala, so we get to see everyone coming and going to pick up their mail. It’s a rural setting, surrounded by fields and the sound of tractors. We don’t have a big sign with neon lights. Most people just know where Rakesh’s place is and walk right in. Since we are a construction outfit, we spend more time out in the dirt than behind a desk. Our shoes are never clean, and there’s always a layer of dust on the computer screens. We do a lot of local work, helping neighbors fix their walls or putting up small buildings. It’s a tight-knit community here in Punjab, so your reputation is everything. If you do a bad job, the whole village knows by dinner. We eat together most days, usually something simple brought from home. We don't have fancy titles or big speeches. We just look at the materials, check the weather, and get the bricks laid. Life in Moga is predictable in a good way. We know the seasons and we know our neighbors. We just keep working hard, hoping the rain stays away when we have a roof to finish. It’s a decent living for simple folk.
