Our business operates out of plots 35 to 38 in the GIDC Ganeshpur area. It is a fairly large space because we need the room to store and sort the items we export. GIDC is a purely industrial zone, so it is quite dusty and can get very loud with the machines running in the neighboring units. We have a few simple sheds built on these plots to protect our materials from the sun and the rain. Most of our day is spent walking between the sheds and checking on the packing process. We don't have a formal office with air conditioning or nice furniture. Our workspace is mostly concrete floors and metal desks where we keep our logbooks. We prefer writing things down by hand because it is faster for us when we are moving around the site. The truck drivers who come to pick up the goods know us well, and we usually have a spot for them to park while we finish the loading. We’ve been in Ganeshpur for many years and have seen the area change a lot. It is hard work, especially when the summer heat hits the metal roofs, but we are used to the conditions. We just focus on getting the daily shipments ready and making sure everything is counted correctly before the gates are closed for the evening. It is a very practical way to run a business.
