V R Timbers

People often ask how long we’ve been here at Plot 8 and 9 in the Krishna Sai Enclave area. Honestly, I lose track of the years because wood has a way of making time feel different. It is a messy job, really. There is sawdust everywhere and the smell of fresh timber is something you never quite get out of your clothes. We spend most of our mornings unloading trucks and checking the grain on the new arrivals. Mahaboobkhanpet Maktha isn’t the busiest part of town, but it keeps us busy enough. Sometimes the rain makes things difficult because you have to cover everything up fast or the wood gets ruined. My hands are usually pretty rough from moving planks all day, but that’s just how it goes when you work with your hands. We don’t have fancy offices or anything like that. It’s just a yard with a lot of heavy lifting and some old saws that have seen better days. Neighbors stop by sometimes just to chat while we are cutting. It is a simple way to make a living, even if it’s loud and dusty. We just try to get the orders right and move on to the next pile. There’s no secret to it, just showing up and doing the work. You get used to the noise of the machines after a while. It’s home for us now, even with all the mess and the splinters.
