Vikram Carpets is tucked away in Katra Bazi Rao. If you’ve ever walked through the markets there, you know how it feels. It’s crowded, it’s lively, and there is always something happening in the lanes. We’ve been working with carpets for a long time in this specific spot. It’s not a big showroom with air conditioning and glass doors. It’s more of a traditional setup where the rugs are stacked up and you can smell the wool and materials as soon as you walk in. We spend our days dealing with weavers and checking the quality of the knots. It’s a lot of manual work and looking closely at patterns. Sometimes the lights in the Katra flicker a bit, or the rain makes the narrow paths hard to walk through. We are used to it. The people who work here have been doing this for years. Sometimes generations. We don't really do much advertising. People usually find us by word of mouth or by just wandering through the market and seeing what we have. It’s a very direct way of doing business. You see the carpet, you touch it, and you decide if you like it. We don't have fancy titles or a corporate structure. We just know carpets and we know this market. It is a slow, steady kind of life that revolves around the loom and the trade. That is how we like it.
