Shalabh Carpets

Shalabh Carpets is situated at 38, Kote Ghat in the Narghat area. It’s a bit of an older part of town, which gives it some character. We work out of a building that has been around for quite a while. The rooms are a bit small, but they are filled with carpets and rugs of all kinds. We spend our days mostly sorting through the stock and showing pieces to people who drop by. It’s not a high-end gallery. It’s more like a workshop and storage space combined. The air usually smells a bit like wool and dust, which is something you just stop noticing after a few years. We aren't big on technology here. We still do a lot of things by hand and keep our records in big paper books. The street outside is narrow, so you can't really bring big vehicles right to the door. We have to carry a lot of things by hand to the main road. It keeps us fit, I suppose. There are no big bosses in suits here. We are just a few people who have learned the carpet trade over time. We don't have a marketing budget or a fancy logo. We just rely on the fact that we've been in Narghat for a long time and people know us. It’s a quiet, steady life for the most part. We just take it one day at a time and see what happens.
