The Mother India Building is where you’ll find us, tucked away in the Karepada area of Uttan, Bhayandar West. Being this close to the water means there is always a lot of work to do with boats and marine gear. The air smells like salt and diesel most days, which I guess you just stop noticing after a few weeks of working here. We mostly deal with parts and equipment that the local fishermen and boat owners need to keep things running. It’s a small space, so things tend to pile up near the back door if we don't stay on top of it. Some mornings are quiet, just the sound of the birds, and then suddenly five people walk in all needing something fixed at the same time. We try to keep the most common supplies in stock, but sometimes the deliveries from the city take longer than we’d like. The flooring is a bit scuffed up from moving heavy crates around all day. It isn't a showroom or anything like that, just a place where things get done. We know most of the people around here by their first names. If you’re walking down toward the docks, you’ve probably passed by our door plenty of times. The building is old but sturdy enough. We just focus on getting through the daily list of tasks and making sure nobody is left stuck at the pier without the right part.
