Out here in Dadiyasan, specifically at Plot No. 143 in the GIDC area, things are a bit more industrial. We are on Modhera Road, and you can usually tell you’re close because of the specific smell of rubber being processed. Our building is a large shed with a lot of heavy machinery that’s been running for a long time. It’s loud and it gets quite hot near the presses. We have a small office area off to the side, but most of us spend our time on the factory floor checking on the molds and the raw materials. It’s a hands-on kind of job. We wear old clothes because everything gets stained or dusty pretty fast. There’s a rhythm to the machines that you just get used to after a week or two. We have a small crew of local guys who know exactly how to handle the rubber so it comes out right. We don’t have a marketing team or anyone in a suit. If there is a problem with a product, we just fix the machine or change the mix. It is very practical work. We eat our lunch under the shade of the trees outside during the breaks. The road outside has a lot of trucks coming and going from other factories. It’s just a standard day in the industrial estate, making parts and keeping the production line moving.
