Umiya Castel Fid

If you head down to the GIDC Estate and find Plot No. 130, that’s where you’ll find us at Umiya Castel Fid. The estate is a huge maze of factories and warehouses, but we’ve been in this particular spot for quite some time. It’s a dusty place, as most of these industrial areas are, and there’s always a truck backing up or a forklift moving something heavy. We don't have a fancy entrance with a fountain; we just have a big metal gate that stays open all day. The work is physical and doesn't leave much room for standing around. We deal with castings and metalwork, so it’s loud and the air always feels a bit heavy with the heat from the furnaces. Our team is small, mostly guys from the local area who don't mind getting their hands black with soot. We take our tea breaks sitting on wooden crates near the entrance where there’s a bit of a breeze. It’s not the kind of place you’d come for a tour, but it’s where things get made. We don't use big words to describe what we do; we just take the raw material and turn it into something useful. It’s a hard way to earn a living, but it’s steady and we’ve got a good rhythm going here at 130.
