Jay Ambe Engineering

You can find us over at Plot No. 238/1 in the Gidc area. This is where Jay Ambe Engineering is based. It’s a workshop full of metal and grease. We have lathes and drills that have seen better days but they still cut true. The air always has that smell of cut iron and machine oil. We spend most of the day bent over pieces of metal, trying to get the dimensions right. It’s not a place for clean clothes. Most of us have stains that won’t ever come out. We take on all kinds of repair work and small manufacturing jobs. Sometimes someone brings in a broken part from a tractor or a factory machine, and we have to figure out how to make it work again. There’s a lot of sparks flying when the grinders are going. It’s loud, and you have to shout to be heard over the noise of the shop. We don’t have a big marketing department or anyone answering phones all day. If the phone rings, one of us just wipes our hands on a rag and picks it up. The Gidc is full of shops like ours, but we just worry about what’s on our own workbench. It’s about getting the metal to do what it’s supposed to do. We stay busy enough to keep the lights on and the machines running. Usually, the floor gets swept once at the very end of the day.
