We are located up here in Lumshnong, which is a bit of a trek if you aren't used to the hills of Meghalaya. Most days start early because the trucks need to get moving before the weather turns or the roads get too crowded with local traffic. Cement Manufacturing Company Limited has been part of this landscape for a good while now. It is dusty work, that is just the nature of the business, but we have a solid rhythm going. You can hear the machinery humming from a distance, and there is always someone around checking the bags or looking over the logistics. The air gets cool in the evenings, which is a nice break from the heavy lifting of the day. We don't really do much fancy talking here. It’s just about getting the product out and making sure the loaders are on schedule. People in the village know us well. Sometimes the rain makes things difficult, especially during the monsoon when everything turns to mud, but we keep the gates open and the kiln running as much as we can. We have workers who have been with us since the start, and they just get on with it without needing much direction.
